A celebration for local foster families took place in Tallahassee on Saturday (4/29). It was also part of an ongoing effort to recruit more foster families.
It began with a midday party for foster kids at Fire Betty's Arcade in Midtown. It was hosted by the Go Foster organization, whose Executive Officer is Dr. Tom Croom.
"There's over 30,000 kids in the Florida system. 20,000 of those kids are in out-of-home care. There are only approximately 5,000 licensed homes in the state," he said, emphasizing the demand versus the supply.
Croom said a big part of what Go Foster does is to help bring new foster families into the system by providing support for those families.
"We're not in the business of licensing and we're not in the business of managing cases. We are here to help foster parents. That's it!" he insisted.
Saturday's event concluded with a party for grownups at Fifth and Thomas.
