Tallahassee's Fat Cat Cafe was celebrating its 8th anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 23 and there were plenty of feline fans lining up to join the party.
In 2017, Michelle Hartsfield opened the city's first cat cafe as a labor of love in between her day duties as a teacher. She soon recast it as a non-profit enterprise, giving it access to more resources and enabling her to attract more forever homes for the cafe's four-legged clients.
"We did a count this morning so we could actually say how many adoptions it has been, and I think I can get the number right: 1,728 kitties in 8 years. So it's a little over 200 cats a year, so that's something to be proud of."
Saturday's anniversary party charged no admission fee and saw several more adoptions, including a special-needs adult cat from Georgia.
