Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend is moving to a new location. The organization’s building suffered major damage following Hurricane Hermine.

The winds and rain of Hermine intensified water leaks that Big Brothers Big Sisters was already experiencing. After the storm, staff also found the leaks had done structural damage. But Alva Striplin, Big Brothers Big Sisters CEO, says this setback won’t stop their work.

“The Big Brothers Big Sisters staff, they’ve been amazing. They have not skipped a beat. We still have mentors coming in to be interviewed, we’re still interviewing kids and doing that support. They’re an amazing staff and we’re still doing everything we were doing at the Tennessee Street location,” she says.

Striplin estimates repairs to floors, ceilings, and drywall will take up to six months. During that time, Big Brothers Big Sisters is being housed by James Moore CPAs, who offered them working space for free. ReThink Energy Florida leases space in the building, and is currently looking for a new permanent office.
