Storms, like Hurricane Hermine, leave behind broken branches and other potentially harmful wreckage. As Tallahassee continues its post Hermine recovery, some worry heavy rain could wash debris into the storm drains, potentially clogging them, and leading to flooding.City spokesperson Carrie Poole says that’s been a problem before, but this time the city is prepared.
“Our streets and drainage crews are familiar with that being an issue, and so prior to a storm,” Poole said. “They will go out and take preventative measures to remove debris that has the potential of blocking any drainage areas.”
Poole says crews are making their second round to get the last of the debris from resident’s front yards.
“Debris removal crews, right now, are working this week…through neighborhoods to clean up debris from the storm,” Poole said. “And so, we’re also encouraging residents to put their debris out at the curb, but also asking them to be mindful of where they’re placing debris. So as not to block drainage grates.”
Wednesday marks one month since Hermine hit Tallahassee.
