Local Goodwill Stores Getting Facelifts

Tom Flanigan

Goodwill Industries of the Big Bend is modernizing many of its retail stores.

The first of those stores received a gala grand-reopening on Saturday (9/17). The Goodwill Band led by former FAMU Marching 100 Director Dr. Julian White provided a musical backdrop for the occasion. Regional Goodwill CEO and President Fred Shelfer greeted the long line of shoppers waiting to see the remodeled store.

"And now we're going to open the doors and invite you in and thank you for coming," he told the crowd to much applause.

And Shelfer explained in today's shopping environment, a fresh, inviting store environment is critical, even for Goodwill.

"It's a tough retail market today," he acknowledged. "There's a lot of competition in Tallahassee and we're trying to keep up."

The next local Goodwill Store getting a makeover is the one on North Monroe Street.
