Tallahassee a "Top-Fifty" Small Business Contender

Florida’s Capital City is among the 50 best places in the country to start a new business. That assessment

is featured in the August edition of Entrepreneurship Magazine.   Out of some 2,200 U.S. cities, Tallahassee was ranked the 46th best place to start a new business, according to Entrepreneurship Magazine and its partner, Livability.com. The survey included interviews with small business owners, like Tallahassee’s Greg Cohen, owner and operator of the Lofty Pursuits soda fountain and game store.

“I realized going into the interview that I was going to be interviewed about the store by a national magazine and I wasn’t sure how much business that was going to bring into the store, but I realized I had an opportunity to bring people to Tallahassee. So I took the opportunity to brag about the city that I love,” Cohen said.

The article also praised the contribution of small business resources such as FSU’s Jim Moran Institute as helping create an environment in which new business enterprises could thrive. Between 2011 and last year, Tallahassee has seen a seventeen percent increase in business growth and a twenty-three percent boost in the number of local jobs.
