City Officials Will Discuss Whistleblower Case In Closed-Door Meeting
City of Tallahassee officials are scheduled to discuss an ongoing whistleblower case Wednesday.
City commissioners and lawyers will discuss how to move forward in the case of Mark DeCarlo, a former Tallahassee Fire Department Engineer. In 2013, DeCarlo raised concerns about safety issues and faulty equipment, and claims he was fired in retaliation. A federal jury awarded him $850,000 in lost wages and damages. Attorney for the city Cassandra Jackson says a judge is still deciding if DeCarlo should get his job back.
“The next step really is in the hands of the court. The Court will render a verdict, or not really a verdict but a judgment. And the judgment will address both the verdict of the jury as well as the court’s determination with regard to reinstatement,” she said.
The discussion will take place during Wednesday’s City Commission meeting. Because the lawsuit is ongoing, the session is closed to the public and the media.
