Local Attorney Jim Messer To Run For HD 9

Local Attorney Jim Messer is running to represent Tallahassee in House District Nine. Messer wants to succeed Democratic Representative Michelle Rehwinkle-Vasilinda, who is term-limited next year.

Messer announced his candidacy Wednesday on the front steps of the state’s historic old Capitol Building. He wants to support state employees, teachers, and boost job growth.

Messer is running as a Republican, and is taking aim at the Florida legislature—calling attention to its breakdown over issues such as the budget, healthcare and most recently, congressional map drawing.

Also in the race is former Democratic Represenatitve Loranne Ausley, who preceeded current Representative Michelle Rehwinkle-Vasilinda and Arnitta Grice-Walker, who lost to Rehwinkle-Vasilinda last year. For WFSU News, I’m Lynn Hatter.
