Two candidates running to represent the Florida Big Bend region in the state senate have dropped out of a candidates’ forum with WFSU Public Media, the Tallahassee Democrat and the Leauge of Women Voters of Tallahassee.

Ausley, a Democrat, defeated Republican challenger and political newcomer Marva Preston winning more than 53 percent of the vote in state Senate District 3.

Some of the most competitive races on the Florida ballot next week are for seats in the state Senate. Republicans hold a 23 to 17 advantage over Democrats and both parties like their chances.
