Patrons Still Have Gripes After FSU Disability Parking Compromise
A new development has been unveiled in the Doak Campbell Stadium disability parking situation.
Remember Gordon Palmer? Well the Tallahassee attorney, FSU Football fan, and wheel-chair user spoke with Tallahassee Democrat and WFSU last month about Florida State University plans to move all disability parking spaces away from the football stadium to a parking garage around 300 yards away, save for a few disability spaces for boosters. Now there has been a change in the university’s policy and Palmer believes it is because of the backlash.
The FSU Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance heard the complaints of patrons and student protest letters. The office announced last week it would be altering the approach to the situation to better allow patrons with disabilities’ access to the stadium and tailgating.
The new policy will keep 39 spaces adjacent to Doak Campbell Stadium for patrons with disability permits. The disability parking spaces in the garage will be assigned to those applying to FSU in advance of game day.
