Florida State University officials say they’re pushing back against recent bashing in the national media. Top administrators are developing a strategic marketing campaign to polish the school’s image.

Board of Trustees Chairman Allan Bense said he’s ready to send fellow trustees, armed with positive talking points, on speaking tours to spread the good news.

“I think it’s time for us to tell the world about how great FSU is. We’ve taken a few shots. I get it. I understand that," Bense said.

Update 7:43 p.m.: Florida State University football quarterback Jameis Winston is trading in his college career for a professional paycheck, and he's leaving FSU with a lawsuit on its hands.

In a statement issued through his agency, Winston thanks the university and fans for making his time in Tallahassee, “the best time of my life.”

The FSU quarterback is widely considered a top draft pick. His only defeat in two seasons at Florida State came recently-- with a playoff loss to Oregon on New Year’s Day.

A Florida State University probe cleared Jameis Winston of code-of-conduct violations stemming from a 2012 sexual assault allegation. But the most recent development does not mean the quarterback’s legal troubles are over.

Florida State University quarterback Jameis Winston’s student code of conduct hearing ended Wednesday after two days.  Winston and the former FSU student who accused him of sexual assault each presented their side of the case to a hearing officer.
On the second day, the FSU police officer who first responded to the 2012 sexual assault allegation spoke in front of hearing officer Major Harding, a retired Florida Supreme Court Justice. Also at the hearing Wednesday was an investigator from the state attorney’s office which did not file criminal charges in December of 2013.

The hearing comes a year after State Attorney Willie Meggs declined to press charges against Winston for a 2012 sexual assault allegation. A probe by the Tallahassee Police Department languished for months.

Florida Supreme Court

Retired Florida Supreme Court Justice Major Harding will decide whether Florida State University football quarterback Jameis Winston will face school disciplinary charges.

Harding, who served as Chief Justice of the state’s high court between 1998 and 2000, will oversee the proceedings.

Florida State University got prime billing during Tuesday’s Florida gubernatorial debate and not in a positive way.

Both Governor Rick Scott and Democratic Challenger Charlie Crist were asked to respond to the ongoing scrutiny of FSU stemming from the sexual assault allegations leveled against its star quarterback and charges of favoritism by police for FSU football players.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — In a letter obtained by The Associated Press, the adviser for the family of Jameis Winston has asked Florida State why it has chosen now to engage in the Title IX process and accuses the school of trying to protect its own interests and responding to media pressure.

Florida State announced last week it will use an independent official in a student code of conduct hearing. A female student said Winston sexually assaulted her in December 2012.

Florida State University’s star quarterback Jameis Winston has been suspended from the first half  of Saturday’s football game against Clemson. Winston apologized Wednesday for yelling obscenities.

On Tuesday FSU students tweeted that Winston had shouted a vulgar phrase about women while standing on a table in the student union. The phrase comes from an internet meme inspired by a video of a man interrupting a live news broadcast and yelling the words. At a press conference Wednesday Winston addressed his actions.

Florida State University is investigating its star quarterback for possible federal Title IX violations. The investigation stems from a December 2012 incident where Jameis Winston was accused of, but never charged with sexual assault.

Florida State University star athlete and Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston has been suspended from the university baseball team. The reason: Winston walked out of a Tallahassee Publix without paying for about $30 worth of crab legs and other seafood items.

This is not a criminal arrest, this is a civil citation program," said Leon County Sheriffs Major Mike Wood during a press conference about Winston's crab leg theft.

Florida State University is disputing a New York Times article about its star quarterback, a flawed rape investigation and current probe by the federal government.

FSU has remained largely silent about its role in an investigation of rape allegations against its star quarterback, Jameis Winston. The state attorney never charged Winston citing a lack of evidence and flawed investigation by the Tallahassee Police Department.

One of Florida State University’s biggest athletic stars may also be one of the school’s biggest liabilities. The federal government is now probing the school’s handling of sexual assault and harassment allegations against Jameis Winston—using a portion of federal law traditionally governing equal access in sports.
