FSU Pays $950,000 To Settle Winston Rape Suit

Florida State University announced today it’s paying $950,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a former student who claims she was raped in 2012 by former Seminole quarterback Jameis Winston.

The University says it will pay $250,000 to Erica Kinsman and another $700,000 to her attorneys. FSU is also agreeing to promote sexual assault awareness and prevention training programs.

According to the announcement, Kinsman agreed to drop her lawsuit claiming FSU failed to properly investigate her claims.

Winston denies any wrongdoing and now plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is suing Kinsman for defamation in federal court.

Kinsman’s suit against FSU was based on Title IX, which bars sex discrimination in schools that accept federal dollars. Her civil suit against Winston is pending in  Orlando.
