Some representatives from the Capital City's higher education institutions discuss job and career training at the inaugural Data Hub.

The Florida Chamber of Commerce kicked off its statewide Data Hub program in Tallahassee on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The session at the Florida State University Student Services Building focused greatly on the local resources available to accelerate workforce preparation as those opportunities continue to increase.

The bottom line, say organizers, is that there are many resources already available in Florida to get workers ready for the jobs that need them most. For B.J. Van Camp, the director of Lively Technical College, the challenge is that there are more jobs than there are students preparing for them.

"We offer 30 different programs because all of them are going to be sustained based on the credentials that our students graduate with. There's almost a guarantee they're going to find a job as soon as they graduate."

Florida State University and Tallahassee State College are also gearing up their workforce readiness programs in response to the need—largely in the healthcare field and trade programs. The Chamber will be holding other Data Hub workshops throughout the state between now and the end of the year.
