Phil Markel buries his face in his hands after hearing a jury found Charlie Adelson guilty on all three counts for the murder of his son, Dan Markel, on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, in Tallahassee.

Ruth Markel will be sharing stories of grief and resilience at a panel later this month.

Ruth Markel, the mother of slain Florida State University law professor Daniel Markel, will be speaking at Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options (JAFCO) Children’s Village in Sunrise, Florida on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 6 P.M.

She will be joined by Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg and journalist Joel Waldman as they talk about their life's challenges.

Markel wrote the book “The Unveiling: A Mother’s Reflection on Murder, Grief, and Trial Life," which talks about the death of her son, Daniel, who was shot and killed in Tallahassee in 2014 by a hired gunman.

"It has taken a tremendous collective effort to keep Danny’s memory alive and to bring his killers to justice," Ruth Markel said in a statement on the anniversary of her son's death.

Daniel’s brother-in-law, Charles Adelson, was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison Nov. 6 for his role in planning Daniel’s murder.

Charles’ mother Donna Adelson, faces charges for allegedly helping her son. Her case management hearing is scheduled to start Dec. 10th.
