The largest sole lottery winner in U.S. history is an 84-year-old woman from Zephyrhills, Fla. Lottery officials announced the Powerball winner on Wednesday in Tallahassee.
Eighty-four-year-old Gloria Mackenzie is the only winner of last month’s $590 million Powerball jackpot. The Zephyrhills resident bought her ticket at a Publix supermarket in her hometown, which is 30 miles northeast of Tampa. She’s chosen to take the lump sum payment of $371 million before taxes.
Mackenzie was in Tallahassee as Florida Lottery officials made the announcement, but she declined to talk to reporters.
