Leon County and the Village Square is hosting a community discussion on Tallahassee’s long connection with the civil rights struggle, from its earliest days to the present.
In anticipation of that presentation at The Moon later that evening, some of the event’s participants and organizers talk about the history and current status of the fight for equal justice. The guests are: legendary civil rights attorney, Dr. John Due; his daughter Johnita P. Due, now a senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer for CNN’s parent company, Warner Media News & Sports; Leon County Governor’s Royle King, who is deeply involved in the planning and execution of the event; Village Square Board Chair Bill Mattox, whose efforts were pivotal in creating the Civil Rights Sidewalk in downtown Tallahassee; Former Leon County Commissioner Bob Rackleff, the founder of the Big Bend Voting Rights Project, which registers felons who have completed their sentences to vote per 2018’s Amendment Four; and Rebecca Joseph, who is now a registered voter as a result of the Amendment and assists with the Project.
