Leon and its surrounding counties tend to have a higher infant mortality rate than the state as a whole, particularly in the African-American community. Research shows that breastfeeding is a powerful weapon in the battle against infant mortality, while it also provides many other benefits to children and their families. To discuss the issue at the start of Breastfeeding Awareness Month: Tallahassee Memorial OBGYN Dr. Tanya Evers; Family Care Registered Nurse Donna Florence; RN and Lactation Consultant Angela Goodson; and Shareese Hardy, a mom who is an enthusiastic breastfeeding practitioner and supporter.
