Capital Report: May 1, 2026

It took Florida lawmakers less than a week to approve a new congressional district map for the state. Tristan Wood was at the Capitol throughout the process and talks about how the map came to be and what is likely to happen to it next.

Wildfires can be found in just about every corner of Florida. We can blame the drought and plenty of dry brush that’s acting as kindling.
We have extensive coverage of these wildfires, starting with Regan McCarthy. She spoke with state climatologist David Zierden (ZEER-den) about the conditions making this an active fire season.
