Capital Report: May 2, 2023

Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed a bill that will prevent local and state government from investing in companies that use “environmental, social, and governance” ratings, known as ESG. Gina Jordan reports the governor signed the legislation in Jacksonville Tuesday.

A Florida measure that would protect certain crime victims from giving depositions is heading for the governor's desk. As Margie Menzel reports, the bill requires that defendants show good cause to a judge in order to depose children under 18 who are victims of a sexual offense or people with intellectual disabilities.

The jury in former Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum’s trial has been deliberating for more than 2 full days. As Valerie Crowder tells us, jurors informed the judge this (Tuesday) afternoon they’ve reached a unanimous agreement on one of the counts, but they’re stuck on the rest of the charges.

Lawmakers go along with Governor DeSantis’s insistence that state inspectors are the only ones with the authority to inspect the monorail trains on Disney’s property. Tom Flanigan reports.
