Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced plans to keep defending the state’s ban on same-sex marriage Lynn Hatter reports the move comes after the nation’s high court refused to take up several appeals to gay marriage rulings from around the country.

A Leon county circuit judge ruled Thursday the plaintiffs in Florida’s redistricting lawsuit can recover some of their legal costs, but not attorney’s fees.  Nick Evans reports the voting rights activists are looking to a legal concept known as the private attorney general to make their request.

Florida’s prison system has been in the news a lot lately, between suspicious prison deaths, allegations of inmate abuse, and new reforms meant to address such abuses. But, as Sascha Cordner reports, some say the reforms are not enough and a change in leadership should be in store.

Florida Governor Rick Scott is facing flak for and even a lawsuit from Democratic Attorney General Candidate George Sheldon for differences between the federal tax forms he filed and the information he made available to Floridians in his state financial disclosure paperwork.  In a series of articles the Miami Herald looks into those discrepancies. With increased funding for protecting Florida’s freshwater springs, some areas are embarking on water-level monitoring projects for the first time. WFSU’s Florida Public Radio’s Jessica Palombo was there when a crew was digging a new monitoring well in Leon County this week.
