Recreational fishermen spend almost nine billion dollars in Florida each year. But this year, the fishing season for one popular saltwater fish has been drastically cut. As Jessica Palombo reports, the nine-day red snapper season has boat captains, congressmen and government-appointed fish managers all calling for changes to how fish supplies are managed.

As we just heard from Regan McCarthy, Florida’s barrier islands, coral reefs and salt marshes provide critical protection for much of the state’s coastal areas.  But what happens when a shipping channel dredging project threatens beds of living coral?  As Wilson Sayre with member station WLRN in Miami reports, the days of simply destroying those beds in the course of dredging appear to be over.

This weekend, people all over the country will be tuning into the Belmont Stakes to see if California Chrome can win the first Triple Crown in more than 35 years.  But as Nick Evans reports, a horse’s racing career is just the beginning.
