On Saturday, August 10, The Pyramid Players of Tallahassee Studios will take the stage at The Moon to present "Justice ROCKS!"

Co-written by Pyramid Studios' playwriting class, "Justice ROCKS" is a musical comedy so funny, it's a crime!
Watch as the drama unfolds when a popular rock star is accused of stealing a legendary guitar. Will his lawyer be able to clear his name or is he destined for a stint in the big house? Join us to find out!

The doors open at 5 p.m. EST with a Pyramid-wide Art Show & Sale, a Silent Auction and a spread of hors d'oeuvres only our volunteers could pull off. Curtain is at 7 p.m.

Admission is $10 per ticket. Tickets will be available at the door or in advance at Pyramid Studios, 1910 Commonwealth Lane, Tallahassee.

The Tallahassee Parrothead Club presents the 18th Annual Parrothead Phrenzy to benefit Alzheimer’s Project, Inc. The 2024 Phrenzy is Saturday, August 3rd at The Moon. The event will be an evening filled with live music by Jason Webb and The Caribbean Chillers, a Jimmy Buffett tribute show, complemented by games, food, and drinks.The Tallahassee Parrothead Club has donated over $150,000 in 17 years and we are STILL partying for the Project!

The proceeds from this event are dedicated to supporting the Alzheimer's Project's mission in the Big Bend area, focusing on providing assistance and support to caregivers. The Alzheimer's Project offers a range of vital services including respite care, support groups,counseling, AmeriCorps In-Home Care, and caregiver education. These services play a crucial role in helping caregivers navigate the challenges of caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's, ensuring they receive the support and resources they need.

Continuing their exhibit series, Randy and Debra Brienen return to LeMoyne for a third time with "Forever Side by Side," featuring acrylic and oil works on canvas, where each artist uniquely interprets the same subject in their distinctive styles. Inspired by nature, the Brienens will be featuring several beloved Florida scenes and landmarks.

Join us for a sneak peek at new works by local playwrights. The entire weekend of July 26-28 will be dedicated to staged readings of original plays by members of Friends with the Write Stuff. An added feature will be the Play Jam on Saturday afternoon with six local playwrights reading 10-minute selections of their latest works.

Friends with the Write Stuff is a dynamic collective of writers who gather regularly to foster creativity and support each other's craft. The group’s original members - Beth Blair, Bev DeMello, Michelle R. Nickens, and Bert A. Mitchell – were inspired to begin producing new works following a 2022 playwrights Q&A session hosted by Theatre Tallahassee. The following year, their first staged reading event was held at the Monticello Opera House.

Friends with the Write Stuff provides a nurturing environment for playwrights at various stages of their careers, from budding talents to seasoned professionals. During their meetings, members share drafts of their latest works, offer constructive feedback, and brainstorm ideas. They also organize staged readings, helping members refine their work and gain exposure. United by a common love for the theatre, Friends with the Write Stuff is dedicated to promoting creativity and excellence in playwriting.

Host Alok Patel leads a quest to understand what happens to all the data we’re shedding and explores the latest efforts to maximize benefits – without compromising personal privacy.

Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Florida State University, Jonathan Fozard.

Richard R. Burnette III, PhD, senior vice provost and FSU’s institutional data administrator. For the past 25 years, Dr. Burnette has been leading the efforts to make FSU one of the most data informed campuses in the country.

Dave Almquist, Invertebrate Zoologist. Dave has been FNAI's Invertebrate Zoologist since 2005 and added the responsibilities of Assistant Data Manager in 2017. He is most knowledgeable about beetles, but has worked with a variety of rare invertebrates, including bees, grasshoppers, and spiders. Dave is responsible for compiling, entering and updating information about the invertebrates tracked by FNAI, evaluating additional species for inclusion in the database, and surveying for the presence of rare invertebrates. On the data management side, he helps by bulk loading data, training staff on database methodologies, and increasing accuracy and efficiency of data entry by creating and maintaining tools and guidance documents.

Due to popular demand, we have scheduled a second watercolor workshop with Suzanna Winton, member of the Tallahassee Watercolor Society. This class is designed as an introduction to the joys of watercolor painting, but all levels will benefit from Winton’s expert instruction. Winton has been painting in watercolor for 30 years and travels the US leading workshops and artist’s retreats in watercolor and oils. She is the author of "Realistic Watercolor Portraits" and has won countless regional and national awards and accolades for her works.

The focus of this class will be painting native birds and participants will have the choice of painting the beautiful indigo bunting or a stunning woodpecker. Winton will share her special techniques in capturing detail and her extreme talent for creating color recipes using a limited palette resulting in a stunning painting you will be proud to display in your home.

The class is from 9 a.m. to noon and will be held in the Learning Center. The fee is $65 and all supplies for the class will be provided for you. For an additional $10 fee, you will receive a voucher to tour the Main House and view the wildlife art collection, which includes 33 first edition John James Audubon prints of birds native to this region.

The Oasis Fun Fest is back! Join us Labor Day weekend at Tom Brown Park on Saturday, August 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This summer festival has activities for all ages: interactive inflatables and games, water rides, adventure zones, arts and craft activities, food trucks, market vendors, and live music!
