Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit on the Philippines campaign. This exhibit will open on Tuesday, September 3 and be on display until Saturday, September 28. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission, but donations are gladly accepted.

Visitors are invited to come learn about the Japanese assault on the Philippines, the Bataan Death March, and the long campaign to liberate the islands starting with the landing at Leyte and the great Leyte Gulf Naval Campaign. The 38th Infantry Division, which trained at Camp Gordon Johnston, is also known as the "Avengers of Bataan". This division fought a tough campaign at Zig Zag Pass in Luzon in the Spring of 1945.

The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a Full Moon Lighthouse Event on Sunday, August 18, from 8:00-10:00 pm in Carrabelle, FL. Visitors can enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the rising Sturgeon Moon and evening sky.

Visitors can enjoy an after-hours tour of the Keeper’s House Museum and see the exhibit of the lighthouse’s original, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris, France. Guests can browse the unique nautical gifts and souvenirs in the gift shop. Visitors may also enjoy the glowing bonfire in the park (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening.


For those brave souls who are bold enough to venture to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast, evening tower climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay. Evening climbs cost $10 and climb reservations are encouraged due to limited availability. Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall and children under 12 (FREE) with ticketed adults. Advance tickets are strongly suggested as slots may sell out and can be purchased online at https://www.crookedriverlighthouse.com/full-moon-events/ or in the lighthouse gift shop.

Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit exploring the heroic history of the Eighth Air Force, known as The Mighty Eighth. A collection of artifacts will help portray the bravery and sacrifice of the Mighty Eighth. This exhibit will open on Tuesday, July 23 and be on display until Saturday, August 31. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission, but donations are gladly accepted.

The Eighth Air Force was the greatest air armada in history, reaching peak strength of over 200,000 personnel by mid-1944. In just three years, the Eighth completed over 440,000 bomber sorties dropping almost 700,000 tons of bombs, and 11,200 aerial victories. They destroyed the German Luftwaffe, and also destroyed Nazi Germany's ability to wage war. These efforts paved the way for the D-Day assault.

These accomplishments came with a price; the Eighth suffered nearly half of the U.S. Army Air Force's casualties, including more than 26,000 dead. The servicemen of the Eighth earned 17 Medals of Honor (the highest military decoration), 220 Distinguished Service Crosses and many other awards. Visitors are invited to come to the museum to learn more about these heroes.

Venvi Art Gallery and Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra are delighted to host the "T is for Tallahassee: The ABC's of our Musical City" book signing on August 24th from 2-5pm at Venvi Art Gallery. Curated by Amanda Kaorith Thompson and edited by Mary Ann Lindley, this book showcases the works of twenty-six artists in the Tallahassee area.

"T is for Tallahassee: The ABC's of our Musical City" depicts a unique piece of Tallahassee's history, local venues, iconic figures and events. Each page represents one of the 26 letters in the alphabet, while showcasing artwork created by one of twenty-six local artists. Venvi Art Gallery will showcase other works by many of the artists featured during the signing, where the book will also be available for purchase. It will be curated by Rachel Smith, Venvi Art Gallery's manager.

The book signing for "T" is for Tallahassee: The ABC's of our Musical City will be held on August 24th from 2-5pm at Venvi Art Gallery.
