Calling all history buffs and bicentennial celebrators! The Dr. B. L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library is proud to host an exhibit of Hunter Hill's handcrafted scale models of 19th and 20th century buildings from Leon County's African American community.

This exhibit is presented in conjunction with Hunter Hill's program at The Dr. B. L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library on Saturday, April 16th from 1:00pm to 3:30pm, presented in partnership with the Tallahassee African American Genealogical Society. The Identity Affirmation Clinic is a holistic legal clinic that encourages individuals to celebrate and affirm their identity however makes them the most comfortable. Over 14 community partners, including Equality Florida, Planned Parenthood, and Common Grounds Closet will be on site providing resources. Student advocates from Florida State University College of Law will help participants navigate the complex and bureaucratic process of petitioning for a name change. Student advocates from the Claude Pepper Elder Law Clinic will also be on site offering free simple advanced directives to ensure that participants can control who they want to make decisions for them.

Young Artists winners include Brandon Paek performing the Lalo Cello Concerto and Kinley Corrigan performing the Rieding Violin Concertino. Other music selections by Beethoven, Kalinnikov, and Gounod.

If you are a history, gardening, or architecture buff-- this is the tour for you! This guided walking tour will include behind the scenes looks into areas that you will not see on a self-guided tour. Learn more about the wonderful history of Pebble Hill Plantation and how it was almost completely self-sufficient in its heyday in the early 20th century. Wear comfortable shoes and be ready for an adventure in history. The tour will meet at the Visitors’ Center. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after your tour.

Do forests think? Are animals persons? Should museum objects be treated as subjects? “More-than-human Religion” is a collaborative project based at Florida State University around these sorts of questions. The goal is to foster conversation through the interdisciplinary study of religion between Indigenous ways of being, knowing, and theorizing, on the one hand, with the “material turn” in Anglo-American theory and method on the other hand. Other organizing questions include: What are the resources in Indigenous traditions for understanding materiality and human relationships with nonhuman worlds? Our first keynote is from University of Washington professor Radhika Govindrajan entitled “‘The Two Wives of Masan’: On Haunting, Ritual, and Interspecies Kinship in Himalayan India.” The keynote will take place on April 25th, 5:00pm - 6:30pm, in the Globe Auditorium, 110 S. Woodward Ave., on Florida State University’s campus.

Our second keynote comes from the award-winning author Amitav Ghosh. The talk is entitled “Deadly Simplifications: Imagining the Future in a Warming World.” The keynote will take place on April 26th, 5:00pm – 6:45pm, in the William Johnston Building, Room 2005, 143 Honors Way, on Florida State University’s campus.
