Join clay artist, Nancy Jefferson for fun with clay in the LeMoyne Arts Studios. All techniques of hand-building and wheel throwing will be explored. Small classes are designed to teach a combination of beginners and advanced students together which adds more depth to each class. Beginners can learn the wheel or how to create anything by hand-building. From functional to sculptural, the sky is the limit as to what you can create! Join the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library in a system-wide celebration of Women’s History Month! Throughout the month of March, select branch locations will host works from local artists with various interpretations of this annual observance.

At the Bruce J. Host Northeast Branch Library, artist Kim Campbell will showcase a collection of her oceanic fused glass pieces honoring Women in Art.

Artist biography: Born in Memphis, TN, Kim found her love for art in the 5th grade; her classmates were always asking her to draw for them. She concentrated on portraits at first, with acrylics and pastels as her two mediums of choice. After getting her B.S. degree in Studio Art from Florida State, she became a graphic designer and started her own business, Graphic Visions, in 1993. She took more art classes at FSU after graduating, including painting, mosaics, and ceramics. At a teacher’s suggestion, she took a glass fusing class. Two years later, she was teaching that class and bought her own kiln. Today, Kim teaches fused glass classes in her hometown and participates in art shows all over Florida.

“I love the serenity of the ocean and the creatures living there. They are fascinating and are a work of art in themselves. I’ve been working with fused-glass for over a decade, and I’m still learning new techniques and applications with this form of art. I work with frit for texture, powders for formations, enamels for painting and backgrounds, and sometimes polymer clay for an added bonus creature. I like to experiment with the powders to create abstract coral you might see underwater. I rarely create two of the same scene, thus my art is changing all the time. I never get bored. Art has always been a part of who I am and my ‘happy place.’”

The Tallahassee Community College Fine Art Gallery proudly presents "Florida Landscapes" from John Gleason. The show will run through February 15.

"Florida Landscapes" features oil and acrylic paintings that boast landscapes from the Red Hills region to Florida's forgotten coast. This exhibition depicts life in our local slice of the south — a timeless yet ever-evolving region. During the opening reception, Gleason will use his love of cooking to create Florida-inspired flavors to accompany the art pieces featured in the exhibit.

The gallery, located in the Fine and Performing Arts Center on the main campus of TCC, is open from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public. Parking on the campus of TCC is also free.

At the Eastside Branch Library, artist Mary Liz Tippin-Moody will showcase a collection of watercolor pieces she has created recently.

Artist biography: As a lifelong resident of Tallahassee, Mary Liz Tippin-Moody has worked as an illustrator, fine artist, and graphic designer in this city for over 45 years. She also now encourages senior artists, mostly women, to explore their creative paths in water media and mixed media. She serves as President of the Artists' League of the Big Bend of Florida and continues to enjoy illustration projects such as the recent Tallahassee Symphony Book, T is for Tallahassee, for which she illustrated the letter Q.

The St. Olaf Choir, conducted by Anton Armstrong will perform at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee, Florida on Friday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. during its 2024 National Tour.

Pebble Hill is honored to be the site of the 2nd Annual Tails & Trails event benefitting Thomasville Humane. This is a family-fun event for dog lovers of all ages! Live dog demonstrations and exhibitions of different dog breeds (police dogs, foxhounds, and retrievers among them). Local artists will be displaying and selling their work. Enjoy a “trail tromp” with your canine friends (must be on a leash) through a beautiful portion of the grounds at Pebble Hill. Do not forget to tour the “Identity & Restraint: Art of the Dog Collar” exhibit in the Elisabeth Ireland Poe Gallery while you are here for the Tails and Trails event. This wonderful canine art exhibition is brought to Pebble Hill in cooperation with the National Sporting Library & Museum in Middleburg, Virginia and the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog in New York, New York The exhibit features a portion of the largest dog collar collection in the world. The collars and artwork in the exhibit date from the 17th to the 20th century and explores the development of the relationship between man and dogs and the evolution of the dog collar. The fee to tour the exhibit is $10. Purchase your ticket at our Visitors Center. The exhibit is open for touring Tuesday-Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library presents this inspirational display of hand-knit and crocheted teddy bears from the Mother Bear Project. View this exhibit at the Dr. B. L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library between February 1st and 29th, 2024.

The Mother Bear Project was founded in 2003 by Amy Berman of Minneapolis, MN. The organization has delivered 200,000 bears offering comfort to children in Africa affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
