The Carrabelle History Museum is presenting an interesting speaker program entitled, “Dog Island Is Moving”. This program will feature an Archaeologist from the Florida Department of State and will be held Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 10 am - 12 pm in the upstairs room at C-Quarters Marina, 501 St. James Ave (Hwy 98), Carrabelle, FL. There is no charge for this event.

Florida has the second longest continuous coastline of any state in the United States. Coupled with this, its many rivers, lakes, and sinks mean much of the state’s fascinating archaeological record exists underwater. The Florida Department of State, Division of Historical Resources is tasked with managing, interpreting, promoting, and protecting archaeological sites on state lands and in state waters. Recently, archaeologists from the state office conducted a remote sensing and sediment core survey around Dog Island. The purpose of this work was to study how the island has moved over time and how this movement may be affecting shipwrecks and other archaeological sites in the vicinity. This talk will discuss the methods used to map the seafloor around Dog Island and how scuba divers collected and analyzed sediment cores to trace island movement. Preliminary results and plans for future research will also be covered. Finally, this talk will highlight the importance of protecting archaeological sites and what the public can do to contribute to these efforts.

The Friends of Franklin County Public Libraries will be hosting two Soup-er Celebrations - Soup, Bread, and Book Sales Events. The first will be held at the Eastpoint Branch Library, 160 Hickory Dip Rd in Eastpoint FL on Saturday, January 20, 2024. The second will be held at the Carrabelle Branch Library, 311 St. James Avenue, Carrabelle, FL on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Both will be from 10 am - 2 pm.


These events feature delicious homemade soups, freshly baked artisan breads and used books and DVDs. Local residents bring their delicious homemade soups like seafood bisques and gumbos, chili, Brunswick stew, and more and freshly baked artisan breads for the Friends to sell. Past years featured dozens of soups ranging from exotic to healthy to old-fashioned soups. The soups and breads sell out fast so visitors are encouraged to come early to get the best selection. Vintage and used books and used DVDs for all ages are also available for purchase.


These events will also offer a focus on local culture and art, with live music from the “Ukulilies”. In addition local artists and artisans will be showcasing some of their stunning local art and goods. These are family friendly events and all are welcome.


The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries (FFCPL) is a 501(c)(3) organization. The funds raised from the Souper Celebration help the Friends to support the Franklin County Public Libraries in Eastpoint and Carrabelle, Florida and their goals to provide informational, educational and cultural materials for the benefit of persons of all ages in the community. The Friends supports many library programs like Summer Reading, Storytimes, Book Chats, Pen to Paper Writers Series, and more.

LeMoyne’s 24th Annual Chain of Parks Art Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21, 2024, at the Bloxham, Lewis and Randolph “Chain of Parks,” located in Downtown Tallahassee. Join the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library in a system-wide celebration of Women’s History Month! Throughout the month of March, select branch locations will host works from local artists with various interpretations of this annual observance.

The Dr. B.L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library will host a display of items from the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. during their own observance of “Finer Womanhood Month.” This exhibit will inform vewers about the history of the sorority, their local chapter, Chi Theta Zeta, and their contributions to the local community.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. is a Community Conscious Action Oriented Organization that was founded in 1920 on the founding principals of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood. We are a group of educated women who pride ourselves in community service. The end of February through the month of March we celebrate Finer Womanhood month which represents character, integrity, and perseverance. As defined by our esteemed sorority, Finer Womanhood is the “distinguishing characteristics of a woman, one superior in kind, quality, or appearance; marked by or affecting elegance or refinement.” A finer woman is a woman who through mind, body, and spirit seeks to empower herself and people from all walks of life.

FSU’s Museum of Fine Arts presents its “2nd Annual Roaming Art & Wine Tour” on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Explore the galleries and learn about key pieces in each of the three spring exhibits-All Hands on Deck: 15 Years of Collaboration at Small Craft Advisory Press, Talamh agus Teanga: Land and Language in Contemporary Irish Art, and a look at 50 years of permanent art collecting by MoFA.

Join us for the opening reception of Talamh agus Teanga: Land and Language in Contemporary Irish Art featuring the work of Kari Cahill, Ceara Conway, Liadin Cooke, Dorothy Cross, Miriam de Búrca, Katie Holten, Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín, Méadhbh O’Connor, Éimear O’Keane and Kathy Scott of The Trailblazery. This exhibition gathers artists engaged with land-based practices who are both native speakers as well as learners of Irish in a celebration of the rich history and vitality of the Irish language, culture, and art.
