Named after the river of the same name, the town sits just below the Ochlocknee Following the Civil War, more and more people moved to the area to start small farms. Our next road trip adventure takes us to Boston, Georgia!

Tours meet at the Thomasville History Center at 9:30am to load onto the bus. Separate drivers can meet the group at the first tour stop by 10am. The bus will arrive back at the History Center by 4pm.

While Boston may be the second oldest town in the county, it's current location was not where its founders originally started. In the 1860s the community shifted the town two miles down the road to be closer to the railroad station. Formally incorporated in 1870, Boston has since remained a bustling town complete with a Carnegie Library that still serves the community's appetite for literacy. The town supports not only a strong agricultural community but also a thriving business sector in their historic downtown.

Guests are asked to wear comfortable walking clothes and closed-toe shoes. Some ventures may involve wandering off the beaten path. Water will be available but it is recommended to bring a water bottle. Lunch and additional purchases made during the Road Trip are not included in the ticket price. • Lofty Pursuits will host the 15th annual, Tallahassee Open Ice Cream Eating Contest

At Lofty Pursuits we felt this day should be celebrated by cramming as much ice cream into ourselves, and we help to measure how much is crammed with an annual ice cream eating

The contest will start at 3pm, but sign up will start a 2:30. We will randomly select up to 8 contestants for each division out of the potential ice cream eaters who sign up to see who's stomach will reign supreme. Yes, last year's winners will automatically be in the contest.

There are two divisions, Under 16, and 16 & over. Prizes to be given to the top three people who can eat the most in each category.
Each contestant will have three minutes to eat as much ice cream as they can, and will be judged by the amount of ice cream given to them minus the weight of what they left over. The winners will win Lofty Pursuits gift certificates.

Mind you, every day in some way is National Ice Cream day. On Sunday July 19th, we just see who can eat the most of it.

  • On Thursday, July 23, Goodwood Museum & Gardens will launch Goodwood Live, a new series designed to bring audiences closer to the stories behind the music they love. The inaugural event, Goodwood Live: An Evening of Jazz with the Leon Anderson Quartet, will feature a live performance and lecture by acclaimed drummer, educator, and Florida State University Director of Jazz Studies Leon Anderson Jr.

The idea behind Goodwood Live is simple: music becomes even more meaningful when audiences understand the history, culture, and people who shaped it. By pairing performances with artist-led conversations, the series will offer guests an opportunity to experience the roots behind the rhythm of America's most influential musical traditions.

A native of the vibrant New Orleans jazz scene, Anderson’s career spans performances with legends like Marcus Roberts and Wynton Marsalis, as well as appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra, and numerous other noteworthy international jazz and symphony orchestras. Anderson continues to perform at major festivals, concert halls, and jazz venues worldwide. Leon Anderson’s latest release, Live at Snug Harbor (2025), has already earned rave reviews, further cementing his reputation as a leading voice in contemporary jazz.

The evening will feature a dynamic live performance by the Leon Anderson Quartet, showcasing the depth, improvisation, and energy that define jazz at its finest. Interwoven in the performance, guests will enjoy an engaging lecture from Anderson exploring the rich history and cultural impact of jazz in America—from its roots to its enduring influence today.

Whether you're a lifelong jazz enthusiast or simply looking for a unique night out, Goodwood Live offers an inspiring blend of music, culture, and storytelling in a setting as timeless as the genre itself. Goodwood Live is a benefit for Goodwood Museum & Gardens.
