Goodwood Live: An Evening of Jazz with the Leon Anderson Quartet
Goodwood Live: An Evening of Jazz with the Leon Anderson Quartet
On Thursday, July 23, Goodwood Museum & Gardens will launch Goodwood Live, a new series designed to bring audiences closer to the stories behind the music they love. The inaugural event, Goodwood Live: An Evening of Jazz with the Leon Anderson Quartet, will feature a live performance and lecture by acclaimed drummer, educator, and Florida State University Director of Jazz Studies Leon Anderson Jr.
The idea behind Goodwood Live is simple: music becomes even more meaningful when audiences understand the history, culture, and people who shaped it. By pairing performances with artist-led conversations, the series will offer guests an opportunity to experience the roots behind the rhythm of America's most influential musical traditions.
A native of the vibrant New Orleans jazz scene, Anderson’s career spans performances with legends like Marcus Roberts and Wynton Marsalis, as well as appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra, and numerous other noteworthy international jazz and symphony orchestras. Anderson continues to perform at major festivals, concert halls, and jazz venues worldwide. Leon Anderson’s latest release, Live at Snug Harbor (2025), has already earned rave reviews, further cementing his reputation as a leading voice in contemporary jazz.
The evening will feature a dynamic live performance by the Leon Anderson Quartet, showcasing the depth, improvisation, and energy that define jazz at its finest. Interwoven in the performance, guests will enjoy an engaging lecture from Anderson exploring the rich history and cultural impact of jazz in America—from its roots to its enduring influence today.
Whether you're a lifelong jazz enthusiast or simply looking for a unique night out, Goodwood Live offers an inspiring blend of music, culture, and storytelling in a setting as timeless as the genre itself. Goodwood Live is a benefit for Goodwood Museum & Gardens.
