Violent Femmes with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra performing their self-titled debut album at the Adderley Amphitheater at Cascades Park on Friday, April 4, 2025.

Pioneering 1980s folk-punk outfit, the Violent Femmes, join forces with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra for a fully symphonic rendition of their self-titled debut album. Released in 1983, the album features classic tracks like “Blister in the Sun,” “Gone Daddy Gone,” and “Add It Up.” Formed in 1981 in Milwaukee, Violent Femmes gained a dedicated following with their distinctive blend of punk and folk rock. The band’s raw sound and honest lyrics have resonated across generations, earning them critical acclaim and a place in alternative music history. With their influential self-titled debut album going platinum, Violent Femmes have consistently delivered energetic, unforgettable live performances and continue to captivate audiences worldwide over the past 40 plus years, with their authentic, genre-defying style

Come out to the Tallahassee Museum for one of the region’s best two-day jazz, swing, and rhythm and blues music festivals on April 12 & 13, 2025 from 11am-5pm!

Musically Up Close with Mary Matthews

Join flutist Mary Matthews for an evening of musical storytelling as she presents Flutelore.

Each work for solo flute, flute and electronics, or flute and piano is inspired by fairytale, folklore, and mythology. From the meditative to the adventurous, the program will include low flutes, flute beatboxing, electroacoustic works and more.
A dynamic and versatile performer, Mary Matthews is flute professor at Florida State University’s College of Music. She enjoys an active career as an international soloist, chamber musician, orchestral flutist, session musician, author, and pedagogue, and she has performed on four continents in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Fundação Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina, Festival Goethe Institut Música Nueva, and Cité Internationale des Arts.
An active studio musician and recording artist, Mary can be heard on soundtracks for film, TV, and video games on Netflix, HBO, and Disney. Co-author of the Beatboxing & Beyond method books, she is known for her command of extended techniques and adventurous programming.

The Carrabelle Chamber of Commerce invites you to experience a fun-filled day along the beautiful historic Carrabelle waterfront! The 2025 Carrabelle Riverfront Festival is a day of family-friendly activities, live music, a car show, unique entertainment, colorful arts & craft vendors, and delicious food vendors, Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 10 am – 6 pm. There will be plenty of activities for the young and old along the beautiful historic harbor. This event is FREE, pet friendly, and open to the public.

The festival will feature plenty of fun for the whole family, including children’s mini-train rides, a bouncy house, and a kids' craft activity station. Families will be thrilled by an exciting performance from the Salty Seahawks Competitive Cheer Team, a talented local REC cheer team from Franklin County, showcasing the skills of these young athletes. Plus, a variety of vendors will be on hand with kid-friendly favorites like face painting and cotton candy, adding to the festive atmosphere.

Feet will be tapping to the upbeat favorites from across the decades with talented musicians including Kevin Andrew and the Rockulla Performers and Sumpin' Old & Sumpin' New. Guests will also be delighted by the wonderful dance performances of the Tallahassee State College Dancers and the Forgotten Coast Dancing Witches. The entertainment doesn’t end there as there will also be fun music by DJ Beanie Baby throughout the day.

Visitors can browse tons of festival vendors and booths with unique arts and craft items, delicious food, yummy treats and interesting products. Food vendors will be offering shrimp, conch fritters, BBQ, kettle corn, funnel cakes, shaved ice, cotton candy, pork skins, and more. Plus, there will be family-friendly exhibitors with engaging local displays. Visitors can also explore the local shops, museums, and restaurants for even more choices.

Curfew Masonic Lodge #73 will be hosting a Car Show, with a display of classic, vintage, and custom vehicles. Local antique car collectors and enthusiasts will showcase their prized automobiles, offering guests the opportunity to admire a diverse lineup of cars, trucks, and more. The Airing of the Quilts, hosted by the Lanark Village Wandering Star Quilters, returns to George Sands Park from 9:30 am - 3 pm, transforming the park into a stunning outdoor quilt gallery. This free event features 100+ new and vintage quilts displayed along the fence and throughout the park. Visitors can browse and purchase handmade quilts and quilted items, explore the Quilter’s Boutique, and enter a raffle for the “Sunset Dock” quilt. Join the Big Bend Community Orchestra in our 105th Public Performance as we highlight the winners of this year's Young Artist Competition.

Tatum Tschetter (horn) will be performing Saint-Saens Morceau de Concert. Jessica Wang (violin) will be performing Kabalevsky Concerto in C Major. Julian Coke-Ugay (violin) will be performing Rieding Concerto in B Minor. Other music selections by Elgar, Glinka and Verdi.

Following the performance, we will hold a reception and fundraiser. We will have a wonderful selection of items to bid on, as well as a raffle for Gem Collection jewelry.

Lili Boulanger’s playful D’un matin de printemps (‘One Spring Morning’) serves as an aperitif for the ravishing First Piano Concerto of Rachmaninoff, performed by the incredible artist Alexander Korsantia, who has won gold medals at the Sydney International Piano Competition, the Palm Beach International Piano Competition, and the Rubinstein Piano Master Competition, to name a few. Tchaikovsky’s supercharged, dramatic Fourth Symphony, which represents the composer’s battle with fate, will round out this spectacular season finale.
