Pirate festivals and attractions can be found in many Florida cities, but how many of them are based on real pirates from history? Climb aboard and set sail as we discover Florida's pirate history! Test your knowledge to see which pirate tales are true, and which tales come from the magic of movies. Children will create a pirate hand puppet.

Each free program runs from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is designed for children ages 4 to 8 and their families.

In celebration of Florida Archaeology Month, we will take a deep dive into the vast world of Florida's underwater archaeology, from shipwrecks to submerged sites. Learn about the challenging work of underwater archaeologists and how they help uncover the past. Children will compare how artifacts change when exposed to different environments such as dry dirt, salt water, and freshwater.

LeMoyne Arts is proud to announce the special estate art exhibition & silent auction, Pieces of Me: Anneliese Oppenheim Art Collection, a tribute to the life and legacy of the late Anneliese Oppenheim, a treasured figure in the local arts community. This thoughtfully curated showcase will run from Tuesday, January 14, through Saturday, January 18, 2025, and will feature a stunning selection of artworks from Oppenheim’s estate. Many of these pieces were lovingly acquired from local artists, such as Paul Tamanian, Randy Brienen, Ruth Deshaies and Ron Yrabedra among others, adding another layer of connection and meaning to this extraordinary collection.
Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to bid on a variety of works through the estate silent auction or purchase pieces outright, experiencing the depth and diversity of Oppenheim’s collection journey through a variety of styles and mediums.

Exhibition Opening with Memorial Bench Dedication
To honor the legacy of Anneliese Oppenheim, LeMoyne Arts invites the community to join us for a special memorial service and bench dedication in her name. This heartfelt tribute will take place at the exhibition opening on Tuesday, January 14, at 5:00 PM, in the serene setting of the LeMoyne Gardens. This moment of reflection will celebrate her enduring contributions to the arts and provide an opportunity for friends, family, and art enthusiasts to come together in her memory. The opening will be held between 5:00 PM-7:30 PM.

Capital Twirlers Square Dance Club invites you to participate in some basic steps at the Tallahassee Senior Center second floor ballroom from 7 to 8 PM on January 13 to find out how much fun Modern Western square dancing is. Then join a new beginner's class starting on January 27th for 12 weeks at $5 a class. Square dancing is a delightfully energetic activity that requires lessons to learn the steps. You will be smiling within minutes, laughing and want to keep on dancing.

If your first thought is: “I can’t dance”, there’s no worry about stepping on your partner’s toes, since you are usually dancing side-by-side. No fancy footwork is required. Instead, you walk quickly in time with the music as you create formations with the other dancers in your square - following the caller’s instructions. It is not difficult to learn; and you don’t have to be graceful. The challenge is in not knowing what will come next; the next step will be “called” out to you. As you continue learning, each “call” or step builds on the previous ones so, with practice, you will be rewarded with the very fun and satisfying experience of square dancing! You will walk many steps at each session, so wear comfortable clothes and shoes. (No crinolines or cowboy boots needed.) Contrary to our name, we do not twirl much, so you will not get dizzy. Please bring a partner, if you can, to get the most out of the event. Ages 12 and up.

Miracle Sports of Tallahassee provides Access to Athletics for people of all abilities. Whether it’s rounding the bases, scoring a touchdown, or driving the lane, we adapt our games so that anyone can participate, and be successful. The majority of our seasons are played on the Miracle Field, in Messer Park; this field provides a barrier free arena for our athletes. Our game days are rich, inclusive environments where our athletes and volunteers play together and encourage one another.

Tribute to Tchaikovsky
A tribute to young talent featuring Victor Shlyakhtenko, College Division Grand Prize Winner of Panama City Symphony’s Emerging Artist Competition and the full force of the orchestra. Memorable melodies are contrasted with powerful themes of fate and struggle in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. Immerse yourself in the music and emerge transfixed by Tchaikovsky and the artistry of Victor Shlyakhtenko.

The Crooked River Lighthouse in Carrabelle, FL will be hosting their 3rd Annual Crooked River Park Fest on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 9 am - 3 pm ET. The event features an expanded Country ‘Super’ Market, local food vendor, car show, and fish rubbing art activity. The Crooked River Lighthouse Museum & Gift Shop, lighthouse tower climbs, and the 1894 Fresnel Lens exhibit will also be open to visitors. Admission to the Crooked River Park Fest is free to the public.

The Country ‘Super’ Market will be expanded to include food vendors and regional arts and crafts vendors. Visitors can shop for gifts and treats, including batch-roasted coffee, delicious baked goods, organic, farm-fresh produce, grass-fed beef, local art, and handcrafted items. Attendees can also enjoy a meal from a local food truck and browse unique nautical gifts and souvenirs in the Keeper’s House Gift Shop.

A car show, courtesy of the Forgotten Coast Cruisers, will display a variety of vehicles, from classic and vintage models to modern custom cars, each showcasing craftsmanship and timeless appeal. This event promises to delight car enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

The Carrabelle Artist Association will host a Fish Rubbing activity, offering a unique, hands-on creative experience. Attendees can participate in Gyotaku, the traditional Japanese art of fish rubbing, to create their own nautical-themed piece to take home. The cost is $20 and includes materials and personal instruction. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees may also bring their own t-shirt, apron, or other items to craft.

Guests can visit the Keeper’s House Museum from 9 am to 5 pm ET to view the original 4th Order Fresnel Lens, manufactured in Paris, France, in 1894, glowing and rotating in its exhibit. This display, a blend of science, culture, and history, highlights the importance of Fresnel lens technology. Admission to the museum is free, though donations are warmly welcomed to support the lighthouse's preservation. Tower climbs are available for visitors aged 13 and older for a $6 fee. Children 12 and under climb free when accompanied by a ticketed climber and must be at least 44 inches tall.
