The Franklin County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program is thrilled to continue its series of fun events with the eagerly awaited children’s entertainer, Mr. Richard. This special program will be held on Monday, July 8, at two convenient times and locations: 2:00 pm at the Carrabelle Branch Library (and 11:00 am at the Eastpoint Branch Library). The Eastpoint Branch is located at 160 Hickory Dip Rd, and the Carrabelle Branch at 311 St. James Avenue (Hwy 98). Library programs are free and open to the public and participants do not need a library card to participate. All ages are welcome.

Mr. Richard will bring his original, wacky songs to life with a special performance just for kids. Mr. Richard, playing guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and harmonica, will entertain with lively, kid-centric tunes about topics like the five-second rule, the garbage man and his truck, and enduring long adult conversations. These lively songs ensure lots of audience participation, with plenty of opportunities to sing, clap, and dance along from the very first tune. The program promises to liven up the day for all who attend.

Richard Peeples plays whimsical, silly tunes for children and their families. He worked at Walt Disney World in Orlando, and also spent two summers as a ranger for the National Park Service in Colorado. For five years, Richard was a storyteller for the Orange County Florida Library. He brings all this experience to his library programs.

During the Summer Reading Program, both library branches have fun activities for both kids and adults. The theme is "Adventure Begins At Your Library" and will feature the outdoors. There are reading logs, prizes and incentives for all ages (including adults).

The Animal Tales Zoofari Earth program features animal ambassadors from around the globe for a truly unique experience! Zoofari Earth features six different exotic animal ambassadors from six different continents! Guests will have the opportunity to get up close and personal and even get “hands-on” with animals from all over the world during this exciting program. Each Animal Tales program is unique because the animals, unlike the presenters, don’t have a script! Animal Tales delivers safe, educational, and entertaining experiences for all ages.

Join the PIRATE Challenge – 2k Relay with your team of 3! The 2nd Annual ROW, RUN, RIDE benefitting Capital City Rowing – our area’s only youth rowing program - will take place on Sunday, September 29th at Apalachee Regional Park. Tallahassee historian, preservationist, and author Althemese Barnes, and Lisa Roberts, lifelong Frenchtown resident, discuss the history of Tallahassee’s Frenchtown neighborhood. Beginning with its settlement by formerly enslaved persons following the Civil War, Frenchtown grew to become a thriving middle-class Black community in the early 1900s. Learn about efforts to preserve this historic community and how people are trying to keep its history alive. The program is free and open to the public and will be held in the R.A. Gray Building, 500 S. Bronough Street, Tallahassee.
