Join the Big Bend Environmental Forum ahead of the primary election for a candidate forum on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at the King Life Sciences Building, 319 Stadium Dr, FSU Campus. A meet and greet with Tallahassee and Leon County candidates starts at 5:15 PM, and will be followed by the forum at 6:00 PM. Invited candidates include those for City Commission Seats 1 and 2 and Leon County Superintendent of Schools. Candidates will answer questions on environmental, energy, sustainability, and growth management issues. This is a great opportunity to engage with local leaders and learn about their plans for the Big Bend Region’s future. Don’t miss it!

Venvi Art Gallery is delighted to showcase "Hidden Layers, Visible Boundaries", a group exhibition of works by artists Anne Stagg and Cheryl Eggleston. This exhibition will showcase each of their unique perspectives through the repetition of patterns and lines in their abstract works. "Hidden Layers, Visible Boundaries" will be on display from September 6th to October 13th, with its opening reception on September 6th from 5-8pm.

"Hidden Layers, Visible Boundaries" showcases over 30 of Anne Stagg and Cheryl Eggleston's abstract pieces. The "hidden layers" aspect of this exhibition represents how Stagg incorporates pattern and color in layers in her works. The layers in Stagg's pieces represent how ideas interact, transform and reveal underlying structures in the complexities found in human interactions, societal systems and ideas over time. The "visible boundaries" aspect is found in the visual boundaries represented through patterns, hard edges and strong lines found in many of Eggleston's works.

Anne Stagg is a Tallahassee- based artist and educator. She currently is an Assistant professor at Florida State University (FSU), where she serves as the co-director for the Foundations Program in their Department of Art. Cheryl Eggleston is an artist based in South Florida. Both Stagg and Eggleston have exhibited their works internationally. Eggleston also received several local awards for her works, even winning second place in the GAA 61st Annual Juried Show hosted by the Gadsden Museum of Art in Gadsden, Alabama. Stagg has received fellowship sand grants for her work as well.

In Stagg's works, she investigates the complexities of human interactions, societal systems and how ideas evolve over time. Her incorporation of patterns and colors in her pieces showcase the process of how layers of ideas transform, interact and reveal underlying structures. While in Eggleston's works, there are no rules. Her works are a representation of herself and serve as an outlet for her thoughts. According to Eggleston, "whether a piece of art is considered good or bad, art is the product of imperfect human creation. This is who I am, and these are my creations."

he Quail Trail 5k is a hilly 5,000-meter cross country course throughout the beautiful grounds and woodlands of Pebble Hill Plantation. Running surfaces include pea gravel, grass, dirt, red clay, and asphalt with multiple changes in elevation.

This course is certified by USA Track & Field, number GA23040WC. Awards presented in several categories.

Walkers are welcome to participate! Dogs on leashes are most welcome and an award will be presented to the first dog to cross the finish line.

*Check in on race day opens at 6:30AM. Race starts at 8:00AM. There is no race day registration. All participants must register online prior to race day. **Strollers are allowed as well as children under 10 with an accompanying adult. Children older than age 10 may run on their own. If you do decide to push a stroller, you should be aware that it will be a very bumpy ride for your passenger on several parts of the course. Lots of uneven terrain throughout most of the course. Some areas are smoother than others & the last mile is paved asphalt, but it will definitely be challenging to push a stroller throughout the majority of the course, particularly the first 2 miles. Spectators are welcome in the start/finish line areas if you decide to have someone stay with a young child while you run/walk the course.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Pebble Hill Preservation Fund which supports the continued care, maintenance, and restoration of the historic 3,000-acre estate and its more than 60 structures.
