Florida’s Republican lawmakers are making good on efforts to revamp the state’s lawsuit environment. It’s a priority of House Speaker Paul Renner and has the backing of the governor. But Adrian Andrews reports Democrats have doubts over whether the bill will improve the state’s insurance markets.

Florida lawmakers are considering a measure to bring rural electric cooperatives under greater regulatory control if they provide broadband. As Valerie Crowder reports, the state’s Public Service Commission would treat those coops as public utilities under the legislation…

Cost is emerging as the biggest hurdle in Florida Republicans’ plans to expand the state’s school voucher program. Known as “universal vouchers” the proposal would allow all K-12 students in the state to become eligible for either a private school scholarship or an education savings account that can be used on education-related expenses. Lynn Hatter reports, some lawmakers are expressing hesitation about the potential price tag as other states with similar programs begin to face big problems.

The governing body for school sports could soon be under Gov. Ron DeSantis’ control. A proposal in the legislature would shrink the board of directors, allow pre-game prayers for all to hear, and as Gina Jordan reports, it would also allow schools to join other sports organizations.
