The Mozart Festival 2013

This is the authentic Mozart, presented like nowhere else. For The Mozart Festival, artists and thousands of visitors from around the world have come to Salzburg, city of Mozart's birth, to celebrate Mozart. The Festival will include artists introducing their performances in backstage clips; short location-recorded features tour the Mozarteum Foundation's priceless collections; and most of all, Mozart's genius is heard in world-class performances of his music. Behind-the-scenes features take listeners for a close-up look at original manuscripts and letters by Mozart, for a visit to a café frequented by the Mozart family, and a revealing look at original portraits of Mozart.

This year, The Mozart Festival presents a special bonus event: a full-length concert performance of Johann Christian Bach's operatic masterpiece, Lucio Silla. Johann Christian Bach was a friend and mentor of the much younger Mozart, and one of the few composers whose work Mozart admired and studied. Bach was already a celebrity when he and the 8-year-old Mozart performed together in London. Presentation of Bach’s Lucio Silla is part of The Mozart Festival tradition, to help celebrate Mozart through presentation of some of the masterpieces of Mozart's contemporaries.

The performance of Lucio Silla is by one of the premiere historically authentic music institutions, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg conducted by the gifted early music interpreter Ivor Bolton with an international cast of soloists.
