With blue skies and pleasant temperatures, Wednesday, October 28 was a perfect day for flying. Six senior military veterans enjoyed part of the day soaring above Tallahassee in an open cockpit, World War Two biplane.
The biplane was a fully restored Boeing Stearman. Thousands of people learned to fly in that type of aircraft during World War Two. On Wednesday, the local veterans, ranging in age from 66 to 85, climbed into its cockpit for their Dream Flight. Josh Wagoner, whose Florida Health Care Association makes the flights possible, wished he could go along.
"A great experience where they get to fly around Tallahassee. And just see it from a bird's eye view in this wonderful World War Two biplane.
Florida Veterans Foundation Board Member Bob Asztalos said the rides are a perfect way to tell the veterans "thank you."
"It lets them experience a great day reliving their life in the military, so it's a great way to honor our veterans."
A great way on a great day for flying.
