Tallahassee police have announced an arrest in a mass shooting near FAMU’s Bragg stadium Saturday night after the homecoming football game. A dozen people were hurt, including children.
TPD says a 15-year-old male is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
News release from TPD:
The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) has made an arrest in connection with the shooting that occurred Saturday, Oct. 24, at approximately 8 p.m. near Perry and Manatee streets. The incident left 12 people injured, including one individual who sustained an ankle injury while fleeing the gunfire.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, detectives arrested 15-year-old Anthony Rivers III in connection with the shooting. Following consultation with State Attorney Jack Campbell, Rivers is facing 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
Preliminary findings indicate a physical altercation occurred before shots were fired.
Detectives believe the incident stemmed from a dispute between individuals known to one another. At this stage of the investigation, none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets.
“What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families,” said Chief of Police Lawrence Revell. “While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over. We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy.”
From the initial response through the ongoing investigation, TPD personnel have worked around the clock to identify those responsible. In the moments immediately following the shooting, officers rushed to render aid to victims before the scene was fully secured.
Since then, detectives, crime analysts, victim advocates and other sworn and civilian personnel have played critical roles in advancing the investigation.
TPD also extends its appreciation to the community for the significant influx of information received since the shooting. Tips and digital evidence provided by members of the public have been vital to investigative efforts.
While an arrest has been made, this remains an open and active investigation, and additional arrests are possible. Detectives continue to pursue leads, review evidence and work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact TPD's dedicated tip line at 850-891-4610. Individuals with photos, videos or other digital evidence can also submit information through the department's online evidence submission portal.
