About a dozen people were standing at the corner of West Tharpe and Ocala streets the morning of October 15, holding signs and waving at passing motorists. One of them was Mike Money who said they had an important message.
"This might be the most dangerous street in town! There are no sidewalks once you leave a certain area and we're here to get some sidewalks in those areas and this is dangerous. There's no ifs, ands or buts about it. This is a dangerous area!"
The group was also supporting incumbent District Three County Commissioner Rick Minor who's been pushing for more Tharpe Street sidewalks. Minor said the funding for the project may already exist.
"At the last Blueprint meeting, Commissioner Caban identified potentially $20 million that wouldn't be used for another project. We want that money to go to Tharpe Street."
Minor said the "Sharpen Up Tharpe" effort will be in evidence at the next Blueprint board meeting on November 12.
