One of the two candidates headed for a runoff for Tallahassee City Commission Seat 3 just received an endorsement that may help him with areas in town he struggled with in the primary.
Local business owner and candidate Tom Derzypolski is being backed by civil rights attorney and recent mayoral candidate Daryl Parks. In a press release from Derzypolski's campaign, Parks gave his reason for backing him.
"As a longtime member of this community, I've watched Tom Derzypolski show up, not just for his own neighborhood, but for every neighborhood in Tallahassee," Parks said. "Tom understands that good leadership on the Commission means representing our city's most vulnerable and making sure Tallahassee remains a place where working families can afford to live and thrive. I believe he'll follow through on that commitment."
Parks' endorsement gives Derzypolski a prominent supporter with political strength in parts of the city where Derzypolski was less successful during the primary.
Derzypolski narrowly beat community advocate Talethia Edwards for second place in the Aug. 18th primary in a race so close it went to a recount. He's facing off against PJ Perez, who got about 30% support. Edwards and Derzypolski both got around 25% support.
Where Derzypolski, Perez, and Edwards got their support in town was drastically different.
Derzypolski performed best in the Northeast precincts in the city, while Perez did better in the city's central precincts. Edwards performed well in the same areas Parks performed well: largely in the city's southeast precincts.
Derzypolski and Perez will face off during the Nov. 3 general election.
