Civil Rights attorney Daryl Parks has endorsed Loranne Ausley for Tallahassee Mayor.
The move comes after Parks won 25 percent of the vote in his primary election bid for mayor—finishing after Ausley and Jeremy Matlow.
The endorsement isn’t a surprise. Parks says he’s been friends with Ausley for years, while he was critical of Matlow during his primary campaign. Now, he says he thinks Ausley will bring the city together.
“We need to grow as a city, and we need a person who has leadership skills and understand what leadership means. And I think she understands what leadership means. I don't think Commissioner Matlow understands what leadership means," he told WFSU.
Ausley is a former Democratic state senator who lost to Republican Corey Simon.
Matlow has been the vocal face of a progressive minority bloc at city hall, that has opposed several actions the city has taken, including transferring Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare’s land to Florida State University, and selling the Capitol City Golf Course.
