The Tallahassee Police and Leon County Sheriffs' departments have broken what they say is a burglary ring that's been breaking into mostly vacant homes since at least last November.
Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil calls the crimes "despicable," as the homes of people who'd recently died were often targeted. Tallahassee Police Major Vincent Boccio explains.
"The suspects primarily focused on the properties they believed would be less likely to have occupants or immediate oversight, including homes that appeared to be abandoned residences where occupants had recently passed away, and at least one commercial property."
The stolen items, valued at more than $20,000, were then pawned or sold. Four suspects, ranging in age from 30 to 48, are now in custody.
