Graduation is about a month away for Leon County's high school seniors. Many of those students were checking out job possibilities on Thursday, April 23 during the Worlds of Work Job Fair.
The event was a partnership between the county school district and Greater Tallahassee Area Chamber of Commerce, along with Career Source Florida. Several local employers had tables set up at Lively Technical College to show the students what kinds of employees they need. Although the district's Matt Roberson notes those jobs aren't as numerous as they were even a year ago.
"There's jobs out there but knowing how to navigate and make those connections. So that's what we've tried to help students within schools, bringing in Career Source to help them find these options that are out there for them."
And the Chamber's Katie Norwood says it's ultimately up to the students to follow up on what is available in the work world.
"All we can do is show them what their options are and make the connections. That's what the Chamber can do is connect the business community with the workforce and let it happen from there."
But time's growing short. The final day of classes in Leon County is May 22nd.
