Some of the most amazing visual art in Leon County is being created by local high school students. Dozens of those works go on display this Thursday, March 5 at the LeMoyne Gallery on Gadsden Street in downtown Tallahassee.

The works include paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and multi-media. Styles range from strict representational to abstract and surrealist images. Isabella Al-Sharif is LeMoyne's curator and programming coordinator.

"We're looking at 50 to 100 artists, all students from our Leon County high schools. It's an honor for LeMoyne to put this on display. For a lot of these students, it's the first time their work is being shown in a professional setting."

The display, called the Mahaska Whitley Student Exhibition, opens at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with a reception and awards ceremony. The exhibit continues through April 4th.
