The performing arts stage at Leon County's Swift Creek Middle School now bears the name of a beloved teacher. Kathryn Belle Long died from brain cancer two-and-a-half years ago. Monday evening, her friends and colleagues gathered to honor her memory. Southern Shakespeare's Laura Johnson says Long's artistic and personal legacy lives on.

"It's all so bittersweet, isn't it? We lost such a light in this community and what she brought for our children and to the community, but most especially to the young ones there at Swift Creek."

Long taught performing arts and music at the school for the 10 years prior to her death in May of 2023.
