Tallahassee-based Capital Health Plan held a wellness fair on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at its Nancy Van Vessem Center For Healthy Aging. Part of the program was to position the HMO as a trusted source of medical information.
Today, many people get most - if not all - of their medical information online. But Capital Health Plan Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lynn Jones worries about all the misinformation, or outright falsehoods on the Internet. She urges everyone to find a real life primary care doctor.
"Just finding that person that they feel comfortable with, that they trust, is probably the most important to help them navigate themselves to the right treatment, the right resources. And if they don't have that trusting relationship, there's no harm in changing and finding someone you can have that relationship with."
That's important, Jones says, because that doctor can keep track of the patient's entire medical situation to avoid conflicts and duplicated treatments.
