Former Leon County Commissioner Bruce Host died on Friday, Sept. 26. One of his surviving fellow commissioners recalled Host's dedication and kindness.
Host served on the county commission from 1992 until 2000. For the first two years of that tenure, he worked alongside Marjorie Turnbull.
"He was such a wonderful commissioner to work with and I was sorry to hear that we lost him. He always had a smile on his face. You always felt a warmth when you were with Bruce," Turnbull said, noting that Host never took any disagreement with his own viewpoint personally.
Host was an advocate for a Northeast Branch Library, which is now named in his honor.
Host would go on to be named the Florida director of the Selective Service System. He also founded the Florida Veterans Hall of Fame.
