The Quincy Music Theatre is also called The Leaf due to its historical connection to tobacco in Gadsden County. Before that, in 1949, it became a cinema.

The Quincy Music Theatre opened its new musical comedy, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” this weekend. The show runs through the 18th.

The theater’s executive director, Olga Connolly, says the production kicked off on a high note opening night.

“We felt really good about the product, giving something to our audience that was high energy, high enthusiasm, and would send them out into the world with a little less care on their shoulders,” she said.

Connolly says they chose this play partly because it’s funny.

“It’s one of those plays that has some adult language in it. It does have some adult situations," she says. "But it is so farcical and ridiculous, you understand that you’re supposed to laugh and have a good time.”

The Quincy Music Theatre puts on six to seven shows a year. Connolly says many of its performers are students from local schools, including Florida State and Florida A&M Universities.

“I think there’s so much talent here that is undiscovered, and we would love for the general public to discover it,” she said.

“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” is the last show of the season, before the theater shifts to its summer classes.

Connolly says next season, their 41st as a musical theater, will start with a bang when they put on “Chicago” in October.
