A Gadsden County student is in custody after authorities briefly locked down James A. Shanks Middle School on Wednesday.
The lockdown happened just before 11 a.m., and lasted about 30 minutes while Quincy police officers removed a firearm from the campus, according to a spokesperson with the Gadsden County School District.
During that time, officers arrested a middle school student. But officials have not said when or whether that student is suspected of bringing the gun onto school grounds.
According to the school district, parents were notified and the school went back to normal operations at 11:30 a.m., after the incident was resolved.
The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. We’ll have more information as the case progresses.
