The vacant 43,000-square-foot theater is listed for more than $4 million.

The Regal Governor’s Square Mall movie theater is permanently closed and the owner of the property intends to sell the now vacant space sooner rather than later.

After their lease expired, Regal pulled the Tallahassee theater from its list of locations.

The property owner is selling the now-vacant theater for $4.6 million, according to an online listing.

Francis Rentz, the commercial realtor working to sell the property, said the theater has been up for sale as an "investment property" since November 2023. But it's now under contract with a new buyer.

“All I can tell you is that the property is currently under contract to a buyer," Rentz told WFSU on Wednesday. "They are in their due diligence period and we hope to close in a short period of time with them.”

The 43,242-square-foot theater is located at 1501 Governors Square Blvd. Its history dates back almost three decades—opening in the summer of 1996.

Florida State University’s film school has shown interest in the facility. During a recent board meeting, school officials said the College of Motion Picture Arts was working to acquire the land.

"We've been working with the provost's office and Dean Reb Braddock for the acquisition of the movie theater," FSU Real Estate Foundation Director Kevin Graham told trustees at the Nov. 21 meeting.

Neither Rentz nor the school would comment on whether FSU is the buyer currently under contract.
