Florida State has hired Gus Malzahn as the football program's next offensive coordinator, FSU announced Monday.

Malzahn resigned from UCF last Saturday. He was in Orlando for four years, where he went 28-24.

He only has two winning seasons, with 9 or more victories. But he has one national championship ring, two national title game appearances, and a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback with Auburn, to hang his hat on.

“I am excited to be here at Florida State and to help us win championships,” Malzahn said via a release. “It’s exciting to work with Coach Norvell, who is someone I believe in as a coach and leader.”

FSU head football coach Mike Norvell tried to keep Malzahn’s hire under wraps during his post game press conference on Saturday.

“I know we have identified your offensive coordinator," he said Saturday. "I know there are a few things we have to finalize in the hiring process before I can comment. But I’m excited about who we have identified.”

Norvell fired former offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins in Week 11, after the Seminoles suffered their sixth straight loss.

Malzahn earned about $5 million a year as head coach in Orlando. FSU has not yet said what salary they expect to pay their new offensive coordinator in Tallahassee.
