A six-week abortion ban signed into law earlier this year would take effect 30 days after a Florida Supreme Court decision to affirm the current ban.

Dixon served in the position for four years.

Gadsden County Administrator Edward Dixon has been terminated after serving in the position for four years.

Commission Chair Eric Hinson raised the motion during Tuesday's commission meeting.

He did not say why he thought Dixon should be fired. But before the board voted 3-2, Dixon said he felt like he was being attacked by people on the board.

“I'm not ashamed of trying to move this county forward...that was my job," said Dixon.

Commissioners Brenda Hope and Ron Green voted against the firing, saying the termination was out of order.

"Let me thank you for the opportunity to serve you. It has truly been a pleasure. We did some great things together. As you know I will go away but I won't go far," said Dixon.

The commission turned the position over to the county’s building official Roosevelt Morris, until the commission can find someone to take over the role permanently.
